The History of Sorbent

Sorbent toilet tissue was launched in New South Wales in 1952 by Australian Paper Manufacturers, and quickly established a trusted place in the hearts and minds of Australian consumers that remains today.

1960's:

In 1963, Sorbent launched the first coloured toilet tissue, in three pastel colours; pink, yellow and aqua blue. Consumers were extremely excited at the chance to choose colours to match the décor of their home.

1990's:

The Sorbent brand was extended into paper towel and facial tissues in 1990.

The 90's was a decade of true innovation for Sorbent as Hypo-allergenic toilet paper was launched in 1996. The product was free of inks, dyes and perfume, making it less irritating to the skin.

In addressing consumer desire for a luxury toilet tissue, Sorbent Silk was launched in 1997 as a true ultra-premium product, offering a distinctive quilted look.

In 1999 Sorbent's incredibly popular Thicker & Larger facial tissue was launched, offering a 50% larger tissue for the added reliability and softness consumers needed.

2000's:

2004 saw the launch of Sorbent Clean and Fresh moist personal toilet wipes. This ground-breaking launch delivered an original product, designed to provide a fresher clean than dry toilet paper alone.

In 2005 we brought new luxury to the facial category with the launch of Sorbent Velvet. Sorbent Velvet tissues were developed using a special paper making technology creating pockets of softness on every tissue. The stylish box designs, made specifically with modern homes in mind, were significantly different to anything on the market at the time.

In 2007 Sorbent began its support of the Cancer Council's Daffodil Day and developed limited edition toilet and facial tissue packs to help make a valued contribution to cancer research, education and support services.

In 2008 Sorbent launched its unique "all-over" emboss pattern. Specifically designed to create an incredibly gentle tissue, it's not only remarkably soft but brings distinction and style into every bathroom.

2008 also saw the launch of new Sorbent Long Roll to address the consumer desire to replace the toilet roll less often. Sorbent Long Roll combines the quality of our gentle embossed toilet tissue with 50% more sheets on every roll to last longer.

In 2009 Sorbent facial launched an exciting category-first packaging innovation within the Australasian market. By flipping the pack we have made our product details clearer, so our consumers can easily decide which Sorbent product they want. This innovation has transformed how shoppers make their facial tissue purchase decisions in-store.
